Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Speech and Language Therapist to join our dynamic team. As a Band 5 therapist, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to individuals with speech, language and communication disorders. You will work under the supervision of senior therapists, contributing to children’s care plans and supporting the delivery of high-quality therapeutic services.

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Birmingham: the successful candidate will be expected to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required). The successful candidate will be required to travel across Birmingham during the week.

Clinical Duties

  • Conduct assessments of speech, language and communication difficulties.

  • Develop and implement individualised treatment plans in collaboration with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Provide direct therapy to individuals and groups, utilising evidence-based practices.

  • Monitor and review clients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records in accordance with departmental and professional standards.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (including schools) to ensure holistic care.

  • Communicate effectively with children, families, and caregivers to provide education and support.

  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.

Professional Development

  • Engage in regular supervision sessions with senior therapists to reflect on practice and develop clinical skills.

  • Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to maintain and enhance clinical competencies.

  • Stay informed about current research and advancements in the field of speech and language therapy.

Administrative Duties

  • Contribute to service development initiatives and quality improvement projects.

  • Assist with the collection of data for audit and research purposes.

  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.

You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse caseload of children, ranging from nursery to secondary school age. You will be responsible for managing your caseload, including assessing, diagnosing, and providing therapy to children with various speech, language, and communication needs. These conditions may include, but are not limited to, speech sound disorder, language disorder and social communication and interaction differences. You will also have the opportunity to work with and support teaching staff and parents to ensure children are provided with wrap-around support.

Person Specification

We are seeking a warm, engaging, proactive, and dynamic Speech & Language Therapist who is passionate about helping children communicate. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:

 

  • Holds a recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy (bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK.

  • Registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy, through employment, is desirable.

  • Experience working with a diverse population, is beneficial.

  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good organisational and time management skills.

  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

  • A self-starter who is eager to contribute to the growth and success of Seen & Heard.

  • Enthusiastic about continuous learning and professional development.
